Our approach to fees

Our practice is committed to providing accessible specialist care, modern facilities with advanced clinical equipment, and well-trained clinical and administrative staff.

This page explains our consultation fees and billing arrangements for different types of patients, as well as our cancellation policy, which helps keep appointments available for others in need.

Please note: depending on your level of insurance cover, you may still be liable for out-of-pocket fees to access a hospital. Please check with your health fund.

Consultation fees

Private health insured and self-funded patients

  • We are a fully private practice and charge private-practice fees.
  • If you are a Medicare card holder, you will receive a portion of our consultation fee back as a rebate. We will submit the claim to Medicare on your behalf and you will receive the Medicare rebate directly into your nominated bank account, usually within 1 to 2 business days.
  • Full payment is required on the day of your appointment. Private health insurance does not cover consultation costs unless you are an inpatient in hospital.

Public patients

  • Public patients seen in our private consulting rooms may be charged our full private-practice fee. If you require surgery, options in the public system and the private system will be discussed with you.
  • If you are a Medicare card holder, you will receive a portion of our consultation fee back as a rebate, paid directly into your nominated bank account, usually within 1 to 2 business days.
  • Full payment is required on the day of your appointment.

Pensioners

  • [PRACTICE TO SUPPLY: pensioner billing policy]

Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) patients

  • We are proud to support our veteran community. If you hold a DVA Gold Card, the full cost of your consultation and treatment is covered by DVA, with no out-of-pocket fees.
  • If you hold a DVA White Card, your cover will depend on the specific conditions accepted by DVA. Please let us know your card details when booking, and we can confirm whether your appointment is fully covered.
  • Our team will bill DVA directly, so you do not need to make a payment at the time of your visit.

WorkSafe Victoria and TAC patients

  • If you are seeing us for a work-related injury covered by WorkSafe Victoria, or a transport accident injury covered by the Transport Accident Commission (TAC), you will usually not have to pay any out-of-pocket costs.
  • Once your claim has been accepted and you provide us with your claim number and current medical certificate, we will invoice the insurer directly in line with their fee schedule.
  • If your claim is still pending, you may need to pay for your consultation initially. Once your claim is approved, you can seek reimbursement from your insurer.
  • Please let our team know at the time of booking if you are a WorkSafe Victoria or TAC patient so we can assist you with the correct paperwork and ensure the process runs smoothly.

Telehealth patients

  • Telehealth consultations attract our regular consultation fee.

Surgical fees

Minor surgery

For minor procedures, Yarra Vascular Surgeons participates in known gap arrangements with most major private health funds where possible. This means eligible patients may have either no out-of-pocket cost or a smaller, more predictable gap for their procedure. Any potential fees will be discussed clearly before surgery so you understand exactly what to expect. [PRACTICE TO CONFIRM: known gap fund arrangements]

Major surgery

For major surgery, our surgeons charge in line with Australian Medical Association (AMA) recommended rates, which reflect the complexity of surgery, the time involved and the standard of specialist care provided. Medicare and private health insurance rebates will generally cover part of the fee, however an out-of-pocket gap is often payable. Our team will provide a detailed quote before surgery so there are no unexpected costs. [PRACTICE TO CONFIRM: AMA-rate billing policy]

Cancellations

If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please give as much notice as possible so we may offer the appointment time to someone else.

Appointments cancelled with less than one business day's notice may require a pre-payment of [PRACTICE TO SUPPLY: cancellation fee amount] to re-book, which becomes non-refundable if the appointment is cancelled again with less than one business day's notice.

Late arrival may require your appointment to be rescheduled.

We understand that unforeseen circumstances can occur and may take these into consideration.

If you have any respiratory symptoms, such as a runny nose, sore throat or cough, please wear a mask to your appointment.
