Overview
Dr Tim Pianta is a nephrologist, also called a renal physician or kidney doctor. He consults across the full spectrum of kidney health and disease, including hypertension, the early management and follow-up of acute kidney injury, glomerular and tubulointerstitial disease, chronic kidney disease and its complications, and the management of kidney replacement therapies.
Tim completed his medical degree with Honours at the University of Melbourne and was awarded his FRACP in 2011 after training across tertiary services in Victoria and New South Wales. He then completed a PhD examining acute kidney injury and kidney transplantation at the University of New South Wales, and continues research into acute kidney disease and its ongoing management, as well as the implications of kidney disease for diagnostic tests and patient outcomes.
Tim is a staff specialist at Northern Hospital and holds a salaried academic appointment in Medical Education at the University of Melbourne, where he teaches and examines medical students and supervises postgraduate research students. He is a regular clinical examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and attends multidisciplinary meetings to improve outcomes for patients and their families.
